Welcome Message

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 32nd APAO Congress, to be held in Singapore from March 1 - 5, 2017. We are delighted that Singapore has once again been given the privilege to host this prestigious ophthalmic event, which is now becoming a pinnacle "must-go meeting" in ophthalmology.

The APAO 2017 Congress, which will be co-organized with the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), gathers a distinguished international faculty of top specialists in ophthalmology from around the world to share their expertise and experience with clinicians, eye surgeons and researchers from the Asia-Pacific region and globally.

Themed "Discovery, Innovation and Practices," the APAO 2017 Congress in Singapore will focus on exciting areas such as new treatments for major eye diseases, novel imaging and surgical techniques, and results of pivotal clinical trials to provide evidence-based practices for Asian eye diseases.

In addition, Singapore has a host of new major tourist attractions such as the National Gallery of Singapore, Gardens by the Bay and other attractions.

I look forward to welcoming you to our unique tropical island where you will not only get the opportunity to learn more about the newest discovery, techniques and developments in ophthalmology, but also gain unforgettable memories of friendships made and renewed.

See you in Singapore in March 2017!

Sincerely yours,
Prof. Tien-Yin WONG
Congress President

APAO Charity Run

At the previous APAO Congress in Chinese Taipei, APAO organized its first-ever charity run as a fundraiser to support post-earthquake relief and reconstruction efforts in Nepal. In total, the run raised almost US$14,000, which was donated to the Nepal Ophthalmic Society.

A second APAO charity run is planned for the 32nd APAO Congress in Singapore on March 4, 2017. More details about the location and beneficiary will be available in due course.

Singapore

Singapore is an island city-state located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, making it the southernmost point in continental Asia. It is one of the world's most multicultural cities, with a blend of Chinese, Malay, Indian and colonial British influences. It is also very modern and fast-paced due to its position as a leading financial and logistics center.

Among Singapore's most unique skyscrapers are the three towers of Marina Bay Sands resort, connected by a "SkyPark" on top. The city skyline also features the Singapore Flyer Ferris wheel and the Merlion statue, a Singaporean symbol formed with the head of a lion and the body of a fish.

Although Singapore is often referred to as the "Lion City," it has earned another nickname as the "Garden City" thanks to its more than 50 parks and green spaces. Sites such as the botanical gardens, including the National Orchid Garden, and Jurong Bird Park offer a quiet sanctuary from the bustling city center.
