Dining in Singapore

With a diverse population from various backgrounds, Singapore is home to food from many parts of Asia and around the world. Different types of Chinese cuisine can be found throughout the city, not just in Chinatown. Malay and Indian food are other prominent local styles, though there are many Western restaurants as well. From exclusive Michelin-starred venues to bustling hawker centers, Singapore offers something for any hungry traveler.

One of Singapore’s most popular dishes is Hainan-style chicken rice, which is served with chili sauce. Another famous favorite is laksa, a spicy coconut-based noodle soup with seafood. Chili or black pepper crab is also a must-try dish, though Singapore is renowned for many types of seafood.

In the morning, head to a kopi tiam (local coffee shop) to try Singapore-style coffee, which can be served with either condensed or evaporated milk. For something a bit stronger, try a sweet and fruity Singapore sling, a gin cocktail invented at the famous Raffles Hotel during colonial times.
